At the Bean Lake Cabin (Platte Co. NW MO) we had a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak on Sunday, May 20. Then on Monday, May 21 a female RBGB showed up. The 2 of them were not seen at the same time either day. And although we were there on the 22nd, neither one showed up again. Hope they will return when we are again at the cabin.

(FOR THOSE WHO KNOW THE PLACE AND MAY HAVE WONDERED: The old Missouri River put a lot of water in Bean Lake during the recent flooding. The water got pretty high at our place, but having been through the '93 flood (and the clean-up afterward) we moved 90% of everything out this time, just in case. The water just came up maybe 24" on the old boat ramp, then started to go down, so the cabin stayed high-and-dry. We are in the process of moving back in, a lot of work but better than shoveling mud out of the house.

Over the the 3 days we were last there (20-21-22) we had a total of 29 species without leaving our property. Many there each day, some showing up one time only.
That's what makes all the work worth while. Up our way, stop in some time.)

Yes, they are very rare breeders in the southern part of the state--and I
even got one on my Mississippi Co. BBS route in the Bootheel one year (stop
adjacent to a riverine forest atop a levee). I don't run across them very
often, though. I don't think they get regular until the south-central part
of Missouri.
