I was at Katy Trail today and I stopped by for the
painted bunting. Mr.Green Truck was there and I
stopped to talk to him. He was a wonderful person and
I sat with him and got to see the beautiful painted
bunting twice. He was not blocking the view, I could
have parked my car at many places to see the bunting.
He also told me he got specific permission from the
DNR and MDC to photograph the bunting in that fashion.
He also told me he was finished and was leaving as of
today. My suggestion to Charlene Malone is you should
try to be friendlier to people and not so judgemental
of everyone .

I went to the Katy Trail Weldon Spring lot last
evening, arriving around
7:00. Gobs of cowbirds at the 'feeder'. One Lark
Sparrow in front of the
feeder and 10 or so Indigo Buntings. After a while
the sparrow flew off,
then I noticed the PABU was in the back of all the
cowbirds. It flew into
the parking lot and landed less than 10 feet away from
me in my van. I
couldn't get focus with the camera before he took off.
 A little while later
two Lark Sparrows came in to feed.

Jim Malone went out early to try to find the Painted
Bunting but "Mr. Green
Truck" was once AGAIN parked right on top of the
make-shift feeder area, 4th

day in a row that I know of. Parked there for hours
too per day to take
photos. If the bird would show up there, couldn't see
it the two days I was

there because the truck completely obstructed the view
. Don't know about
the other two days.
With gas going up to $3.19/gallon*(!!) here in St.
Louis that is a LOT of
$$ wasted to try to look for a bird and can't because
the view is
obstructed.
If there are multiple birders there this weekend there
and the same scenario

is happening maybe an "intervention" should ensue and
the perp be "reminded"

to share.....;-)
Hopefully birders will find it elsewhere in the area.

So Jim went down the trail (east) and found an ALDER
FLYCATCHER singing not
far from the restrooms. PHILADELPHIA VIREO along the
trail as well as the
usual breeding birds.

BTW....
On private property - Canada warblers and Swainson's
thrushes seen and
heard, so they are still coming through.

Good birding........if you can see 'em. ;-)
