The St. Louis Audubon Society trip spent about 5 hr at Columbia Bottom
today, May 19.   The following are highlights of what we observed beyond the
usual suspects.

Most unexpected were some Great-tailed Grackles found by Mike Thelen

SWALLOWS
Barn
Tree
Northern Rough-wing
Bank - these were along the river mostly near the river access area

VIREOS AND WARBLERS
Warbling Vireos - there may be a few hundred here
White-eyed Vireo
Blackburnian Warbler - nice and low near the confluence overlook
Black-throated Green Warbler
Common Yellowthroat

SHOREBIRDS, WATERFOWL and RELATED
Least Sandpipers  (the Sat group reported semi-palmated later in the day)
White-rumped Sandpipers
Greater Yellowlegs
Lesser Yellowlegs
Killdeer
Mallards
Wood Ducks
Double-crested Cormorants - flying upriver
Great Egret 
Great Blue Heron

SPARROWS
Grasshopper
Song
ETS - near the river access parking lot for those with out of town seekers

OTHERS
Peregrine Falcon - chasing the shorebirds
Dickcissels  - everywhere in the grassy areas
Orchard Orioles - about 25-30 - mostly along levee areas
Baltimore Orioles - about 10
Eastern Towhees
Brown Thrashers
Cedar Waxwings
Belted Kingfisher
Bald Eagle
Turkey Vulture
Horned Larks
Cuckoo sp
Indigo Buntings - lots, especially along the River's Edge Trail
Eastern Kingbirds - about 20 +
Northern Bobwhite Quail
Eastern Meadowlarks
Summer Tanager
Blue Grosbeak
Northern Flicker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Red-headed Woodpeckers - 2 mating at the boardwalk slough
House Wren
Carolina Wren
Huge flocks of Rock Pigeons
