Thanks to the close to 100 birders who traveled down to the beautiful area around Salem to bird and enjoy the weekend.

Our goal was 150 species for the weekend, we hit 146.

We located only 5 species of ducks and geese and 3 species of shorebirds, which was expected.

We found all 7 species of Vireo, 29 species of Warbler, 12 species of Sparrow, 5 species of Wren, 8 species of flycatchers, 9 species of hawks and falconsand 7 species of woodpecker.

The importance of the right habitat for the right bird was no better exemplified than by the folks floating the Current River. At one location they had three (3) Swainson's Warbler calling at the same time. How cool is that.

Some misses for the weekend included Lark Sparrow, Clay colored Sparrow, Bald Eagle, E. Screech Owl and Yellow bellied flycatcher just to name a few.

Full results will be in the next issue of The Bluebird.

Bird on my friends, bird on.
