Heard they were planning to do some precribed burns at Dunn Ranch later this Month. Probably will be doing some at Pawnee too but will have to wait until it dries up now.

Birded Pawnee Prairie CA and Dunn Ranch (both Harrison Co.) today (03/19/07) in the afternoon.
Dunn Ranch (get permission from Nature Conservancy before visiting: 314 968-1105, ask for Doug):
Greater prairie chicken - 2
Eastern meadowlark
Western meadowlark
Song sparrow

Pawnee Prairie CA. 140th Ave was closed north of the CA. Enter from the south. Species seen:
Smith's longspur - 1. The bird was on the mowed path 200 yards from the parking lot. THe prairie has not been burnt for a while, so there is almost no suitable habitat for this species.
Northern harrier - 2

Along Hwy W:
FOY Eastern phoebe
Loggerhead shrike
Various waterfowl species on farm ponds

Nice day to be out, but too windy.
