I checked out Tower Grove Park in St. Louis after work today. Last week a
trench had been dug to fix the bubbler in the Gaddy Garden. This week the
work is done, the bubbler is running and the trench is closed and covered
with fresh seed and straw. Some of the downed limbs from the winter have
been piled in a new brush pile east of the Gaddy Garden and there are piles
of fresh mulch ready to be put down before most of the migrants arrive.
Birds there today included about 20 fox sparrows and at least two Eastern
phoebes. There also were juncos galore.
Last week, the first of the wood ducks arrived at the park and an Eastern
towhee and juvenile Cooper's hawk were near the Gaddy Garden. I have not
seen any great horned owls in the park for a while.
