The Oklahoma list recently burst into rhyme with a spate of poems about
timberdoodles. Strangely, a similar urge also came upon me about a week ago,
and I penned the following:

ODE TO THE WOODCOCK

While eating strudel
or walking the poodle,
consider the song
of the timberdoodle.

He carries on
at the crack of dawn
and in waning light
when it's almost night.

He chirps and sings
by clapping his wings
a shorebird version
of cockadoodle.
