Title:
Colorado Chicken Tour (May 4-10, 2007)
Body:
The Illinois Ornithological Society (IOS) is conducting a week-long tour of
Colorado in May. We will explore the diverse topography of Colorado in
search of its rare mix of eastern, western, northern, and southwestern bird
species. This confluence of species is not easily found anywhere else.
The itinerary is built around the quest to see all the species of
Prairie-Chicken and Grouse. Participants will explore prairie grasslands,
high plains, subalpine forests, and alpine tundra and have an opportunity to
build an outstanding trip list!
The tour group will look for Greater and Lesser Prairie-Chicken, Greater and
Gunnison's Sage-Grouse, Sharp-tailed and Dusky Grouse, and White-tailed
Ptarmigan. Other species of interest include Chukar, Lewis's Woodpecker,
Three-toed Woodpecker, Williamson's Sapsucker, Prairie Falcon, all three
Rosy-Finch species (and Hepburn's), McCown's and Chestnut-collared Longspur,
Mountain Plover, Pinyon Jay, several owl species and much more.
Participants are expected to arrive at Denver International Airport on May
3, 2007 in time to participate in a 7:00 p.m. tour briefing session. The
tour will depart very early on May 4 for six full days of birding.
The cost of the Colorado Chicken Tour is $850 for double occupancy and $1150
for single occupancy. The trip will be limited to the first 12 confirmed and
paid participants. Please specify your desire for single or double
occupancy.
If you are interested in participating in this exciting and bird-filled
tour, please send an e-mail to Peter Weber and reserve a space on the trip
now!
