The Saturday morning Bradford survey by Columbia Audubon Society was
held in the snow squalls and horizontal drifting snow. Laura Hillman,
Vanessa Melton and I worked on the vegetated areas with good success.
Most of the fields were snow or ice covered. Some drifts were up to
mid-thigh, but most of the walking was mid-calf or on windswept ice. A
great day to test one's arctic gear. Actually a five foot by 150 foot
strip of water was open on the west end of the lake but no birds were
there.
