I enjoyed participating in the backyard count--first time I've been able to. Couldn't find either of the Hermit Thrushes I'd seen before the big snow. Did have some "fun" birds. Snow Geese over Stephens Lake Park 149 Canadas at Twin Lakes (after the great goose removal program)-- some smaller ones, but no Cackling A Cooper's Hawk at home and at Eagle Bluffs Sharp-shinned Hawks at Antimi Lake and at Twin Lakes Yellow-rumped Warbler for 2 days at feeder (actually at the water) Ruby-crowned Kinglet all four days at feeder--likes that lard, cornmeal, peanut butter mix Rough-legged Hawk at Eagle Bluffs Also at Eagle Bluffs (couldn't find snipe or killdeer): Northern Pintail Hooded Merganser Wood Duck (a pair) Lesser Scaup Canvasback American Wigeon Ring-necked Northern Shoveler Gadwall Mallard--couldn't pick out a Black Duck 2 Cackling Geese Also, 122 Green-winged Teal yesterday that were not there on Sunday. Data base for count has not accepted them--"out of range for the date." Full reports for all but home reports are in CACHE.
