We actually counted 12 swans (4 in one group and 8 in another) from Crow's
Creek picnic area yesterday (Sunday) morning.

Eight trumpeter swans, all with stained heads, no bands on necks, were
feeding near frozen cove, easily seen from south parking lot and south end
of dam about 3:15 pm. Half an hour or so later, while at the north end of
dam parking lot, I was told the swans were no longer there. Wish I'd seen
them fly, if they did. Maybe they just sailed back behind the Litton center
out of sight. There was a smallish raft of snows and blues in same area as
swans; I expected more because of frozen water at Squaw Creek. I saw four
flying bald eagles near the dam, lots of common and hooded mergansers,
common goldeneye, three gadwall, four d.c. cormorants. At 5:45 on McComas
road, saw one perched short-eared owl and one flying. As I drove east on J
just a few blocks from McComas, saw 2 more SEOW perched on posts, south side
of road. I suppose it could have been the same two I'd watched disappear a
few minutes earlier, but would like to think I saw four altogether.
