Hi MOBirders:

I birded Columbia Bottom CA (St. Louis County) late this afternoon.
What a glorious evening.

There were two BALD EAGLEs perched side by side down at the Mississippi
River, one apparently bigger than its companion, so I assumed they were
a mated pair. One of the eagles left the perch and flew a short
distance up the beach and landed on top of an 8-foot branch. It took
off with the wood in its talons, then deftly maneuvered it to its bill
and kept going DOWNSTREAM, not up, so there might be another nest off in
that direction.

Other interesting birds included:

-- Trumpeter Swan, 6
-- Northern Bobwhite, 1
-- Northern Harrier, 1 male
-- Sharp-shinned Hawk, 1
-- MERLIN, 1 "Boreal / Taiga"
-- Eastern Screech-Owl, 1
