Several days ago, I watched a red-tailed hawk, from my kitchen window.
It was flying high, maybe 2 or 3 blocks away. I was trying to decide
if I could count it as a "yard bird" if I saw it FROM my yard......
Well, I just saw it flying right over my backyard, as I was filling
bird feeders. That's good enough for me! Supposedly, last year there
was a pair of red-tailed hawks nesting on a light standard at Kirkwood
High School, a few blocks from my house. I was able to see the pile of
twigs but never saw the birds on the nest. Maybe they're back. I will
keep a lookout for them.
