Call for Papers
 
for a Special Session in co-operation with the International Herder-Society ( http://www.johann-gottfried-herder.net/), organized by Dr. Stephan Jaeger
 
on “Johann Gottfried Herder and the Communication of Knowledge”
 
at the Annual Conference of the Canadian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies / Societé canadienne d'études du dix-huitième siècle (CSECS / SCEDHS),
 
in Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada), Oct. 17-20, 2007
 
Knowledge may refer to all areas which are part of Johann Gottfried Herder’s interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary thinking and writing, for example: history, geography, anthropology, theology, philosophy, poetics, etc. Possible questions may include, but are not limited to: How does Herder’s work communicate knowledge? How can specific media or semiotic approaches be applied to his works? How does Herder create hybrid genres for communicating knowledge? How are truth-claims made or staged in his works? What forms of meta-reflections does Herder engage to reflect upon the representation and representability of knowledge?
 
The overall conference theme is “Media and Communication.” For the general call for papers see

Contributions can be made in English, German, or French.
 
Proposals for papers (250 words) must be received by email by March 24, 2007 (<[log in to unmask]>)
