There are good mudflats at Big Lake SP in Holt county. I was surprised to
see so many shorebirds still there today.
With the cold front coming through, a lot of Barn Swallows and Yellow-rumped
Warblers were very active there today. Double-crested Cormorants numbered
around 280. Only 2 Ring-billed Gulls were there while I was birding, but
another 30+ were approaching from the north as I was leaving. American
White Pelicans were flying about and numerous Green-winged Teal were
sleeping in the shallow water. Great Egrets are still present. A good
variety of sparrows were staying low in grasses avoiding the winds today.
Shorebirds:
50 Yellowlegs
98 Long-billed Dowitchers
30 Stilt Sandpipers
Wilson's Snipes
Killdeer
Solitary Sandpiper
Baird's Sandpipers
2 Semipalmated Sandpipers
