Actually, when I read it aloud I give ALL THE HANDS
equal value and more than the first part of the line.
My intuitive interpretation.

Peter feels the "all" is all but unstressed. I stress "all" but do not stress "thinks." Anyone have an audio of TSE reading it? Diana

The emphasis on ALL seems to me quit a bit less than the others,
almost to the point of bof not being there.

    Cheers,
    Peter

I actually read it as three iambs:

"One THINKS of ALL the HANDS"

      Sorry to be boring!

Could you please help me wit the metrical feet in the second stanza of TSE's Preludes?

I have doubts about the third line here:

                                                   (...)

        With the other masquerades
        That time resumes,
One thinks of all the hands
        That are raising dingy shades
        In a thousand furnished rooms.
are there: one spondee and two dactyls?

        Thank you.
