Interestingly, there were two Common Nighthawks "resting"/"sleeping" on

unusual place to roost for the day!

My guess is they are nesting nearby on the ground or on a flat roof. I have
noticed the last week or so that a single Common Nighthawk is resting on a
utility wire near "downtown" Kearney on 33 Hwy (which is the main street
through town). It is always in the same block. A nighthawk nests in that
area yearly. A few years ago someone saw a nesting nighthawk on the ground
near a business in that block. The bird on the wire is just a fat lump and I
would bet that very few people ever notice it.
