Sunday evening in the light of the setting sun, the green prairie was full of color and sound with the orange butterfly weed, the yellow coreopsis and wingstem, the white wild quinine and indigo. The Blue Grosbeaks were flitting around in the company of American Goldfinches. The Eastern Bluebirds were attending their nest boxes. The Dickcissels were singing their name, and the Northern Bobwhites were calling theirs. An Eastern Meadowlark was whistling his sweet tune. The Field and Chipping Sparrows were trilling and trilling, and in the indigo bush a Common Yellow Throat was going "witchity-witchity-witchity-witch."
