Just a note that I saw several juvenile Horned Larks today.  They can look amazing like an American Pipit.  They have a streaky breast and flanks and a rather different face pattern than the adults.  At this season one should be very careful to eliminate Horned Lark when identifying an out of season pipit.

  yesterday (6/1/06) at Horseshoe Lake in Madison County, Illinois.   
  The bird was on the 203 side at the end of Layton Rd.
