I checked for both the Yellow-crowned and Eared Grebe this morning with no luck. At the end of Layton Rd (formerly dredge), the Green Heron and Little Blue were still around, but only four coots were visible...no grebe of any kind. However, there were quite a few Black-crowned Night Herons along Layton, and two or three Greens. The water appears to be rising.

At Indian Lake there were at least a dozen Snowy Egrets and two dozen Little Blue Herons, plus a couple of Green Herons.

To end the outing, I tried for the Western Kingbird at Russell in Soulard, driving several loops. He/she must have been sheltering from the rain in the little trees along the boulevards. Saw a very wet Mockingbird and a few Mourning Doves for my trouble. At least the Cardinals are doing okay at the top of the Ninth.

I checked for the yellow-crowned night heron off Collinsvilel Road near
Route 203 this morning, but did not find it. I did, however, get a nice
close look at a female hooded merganser. I got pics too, but I am not able
to upload them now.

I also checked yesterday evening at the dredge on the Route 203 side of
Horseshoe Lake, Ill. It was socilaizing with a group of coots in the lake
along the stretch before the last bend when going to the dredge. There was
also a very cooperative green heron and a little blue heron at this
location.
