Isn't spring great! Seems like you can add several new year birds each day you go out birding!

This Saturday morning I birded the oxbow lakes region just south of St.Joseph and got four FOY Missouri birds.

Great Egret x 3 at Lake Contrary
SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER - a stunning adult male flycatching on the west end of Lake Contrary (51 Road)
Yellow-headed Blackbird x 20 at Muskrat Lake (other side of the lake from Crockett Road)
White-faced Ibis x 11 also at Muskrat Lake.

Some other birds of mention at Muskrat Lake: Snow Goose, Ross's Goose, Greater White-fronted Goose, both teal, Northern Shoveler, Gadwall, American Wigeon, both yellowlegs, Pectoral, Semipalmated, Baird's and Least Sandpiper, American Golden-Plover and a female Northern Harrier.

Sparrows seen around Lake Contrary were: Chipping, Savannah, Vesper and Harris's.

Heard both Northern Bobwhite and Ring-necked Pheasants calling around Lake Contrary.
