I hesitate to send this out with all the discussion about Nighthawks but
felt that it would be wrong if I didn't. Today as I did my weekly bird
survey at Mississippi Sanctuary, The Nature Institute, I was watching a
fairly early Ruby Crowned Kinglet when a Gray-Checked Thrush jumped into
view. We have had a Hermit at the sanctuary all winter so I was really
surprised to see it was not a Hermit. Most of the thrushes arrive at
TNI in May so this is really an "early bird". (Sorry I couldn't
resist.) After I finished counting went back to area and could not
relocate the bird. Good birding to all Edna Alexander, Great Rivers
