This isn't at all as exciting as the Inca Dove report at Springfield's MDC Nature Center but it is somewhat related: When I came home from work just now (Friday) there was a couple of Mourning Doves copulating on the patio picnic bench. MODO's have been cooing for several weeks now here in Joplin and also Neosho. Plus, also in Joplin today , there was a broken egg shell of a Rock Pigeon that may have rolled off of a ledge of a downtown building. My first "egg shell" of the year. Rock Pigeons nest nearly year around. I have observed active nests for all months of the year here in Joplin except November - including one on a CBC a few years back. Doves and pigeons, in general, Family Columbidae, tend to have a long nesting season. Good birding, Larry H.
