I usually don't count heard birds on lists, but the first bird this year was a flock of Canada Geese flying by when I got home at 12:26am this morning. First visual bird was American Goldfinch on the thistle feeders.

American kestrel was my first bird of the year and Illinois bird of the
year. When I crossed into Missouri on my way to Winfield, my first bird was
a Canada goose. I don't ask for much, only that my first bird of the year
isn't a starling. (By the way, no luck on finding the prairie falcon at
Winfield).
