As for birds already beginning to "pair," the Mallards on my pond have been "pairing" since Christmas.

Did not see the Townsend's this morning. Arrived around 9:15, and the Malones shortly thereafter. We looked nearby, but no go. Around 10, a Mockingbird landed in the tree just to tease me, so I photographed him and a Chickadee to rationalize toting the 500mm lens along!

Noticed that someone posted about eagles pairing up and the same is true
about the couple on Perque Creek Road in St. Charles co.The two Bald eagles
were sitting side by side near the nest from last year.

Have also noticed that R-T hawks have been paired up for well over a month
and Carolina wrens seem to always be in twos.

Gas is $2.29/gal in St. L so those coming in from out of town be prepared.

Good birding,
