In an effort to jump start my new year list, I went to both Jacomo and
Smithville Lake this afternoon. Saw the following:

JACOMO:

100+ GREATER SCAUP near s. boat dock. (Boats kept putting them up. They all
have nice broad wing stripes in flight.).
Gadwall
Mallard
Bufflehead
Am. Goldeneye
Am. Merganser
Hooded Merganser
235+ Am. Coots.
1 HERMIT THRUSH (Came to Screech Owl tape from gully at south end of
campground across from swim beach)
1 Northern Harrier (flying over campground)
1 White-throated Sparrow (campground)
1 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH (Comes regularly to feeder at BAS library)
Other usual suspects.

SMITHVILLE

1 rosy-breasted FRANKLIN'S GULL in nuptial plumage at Little Platte Marina
2500 Ring-billed Gulls roosting on lake at dusk
10-15 Herring Gulls roosting at dusk
4 BONAPARTE'S GULLS in gull roost.
I covered both marinas and watched the gulls assemble until dark without
seeing the Glaucous Gull.
Quite a few ducks collected on the lake at dusk with the gulls. These
included at least 50 Hooded Mergansers.

I tried for the Short-eared Owls at McComas Road and did not see them.
