I was there this morning from 8:45 to 9:15am and had no luck. Same for
Tuesday morning from 7:45 to 8:15am (sorry retirees, some of us have to get
to work). Will try again tomorrow afternoon around 4:00pm.

The bird appears to be roosting in a small tree near the buildings. It is
most reliable early in the morning and late in the afternoon when it is
coming and going. This evening it was easily visible about 4:00 and went
into roost about 4:45 pm. At other times of day it is very unreliable as it
might be feeding almost anywhere. When it was first seen, it was apparently
eating fruits off a small crabapple tree, but they are now all gone. Good
luck David Becher Saint Louis

I have seen it two days from around 8:00-9:30am. From others I have read
early to mid morning and then late afternoon from 4:00pm onward. I don't
recall any reports in the 11:00-3:30 time frame and others have said they
have looked around the noon hour with no luck. Has been consistant in the
7:30-10:00 time,

Does anyone have an idea of the most probable time to see this bird? It
sounds like 4PM is good, but if we come from Columbia, we would like to be
started home before too late. When has it been seen most often? 9AM? 10AM?
11AM?
  Thanks, Kathleen Anderson, Columbia

Checked for the solitaire Wednesday afternoon 3:45 till the lights came on
and again Thursday from 715a to 8a with birders who had not yet seen the
Meramec. No luck.

Returned Thursday at 4pm, concentrating on the viburnum bush. It swooped
in over our heads about 416pm and landed on the ground on the south side of
the bush where we watched it for about half an hour. It continued to act
like a robin, cocking its head and occasionally probing for what looked like
a worm, sometimes hopping briefly onto a low branch of the bush. Our
presence or that of passers-by apparently did not phase it.
