Thanks to everyone who offered an opinion about the "large gull" that I
found at Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary (St. Charles County) on
December 17, 2005. As a simple wrap-up, for anyone who is interested, I
thought it would be worthwhile to summarize what the IDs were.

For refresher, here's a link to the photos I took. They're labeled
"Large gull." http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/1048592.

If the identification of the bird were decided by popular vote, then the
bird was a large LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL. Here's how the IDs came in:

SPECIES # OF OPINIONS
Lesser Black-backed Gull 5
Slaty-backed Gull 2
Western Gull 1
Great Black-backed Gull 2
Kelp Gull 1
Herring Gull x Great Black-backed Gull 1
