Approaching Civilization
Seeking papers that analyze theoretical, historical, or aesthetic 
renderings of civilization's construction and collapse, with 
particular attention to the experiences of fascism, exile, and/or 
genocide.  Contributions should also consider the contemporary 
relevance of the idea of civilization and advance discussion of such 
conceptual problems as civilization rupture (Zivilisationsbruch) and 
the relationship between civilization and barbarism.

Object is to assemble an interdisciplinary group that will examine a 
range of critical and creative texts.  Please send 300-word abstracts 
and brief cvs (w/in email or as MS Word attachments) to Theodore 
Rippey ([log in to unmask]) by 8 February 2006.
