As previously announced on MOBIRDS and with in depth coverage in the December Bluebird, the Audubon Society of Missouri (ASM) has entered into a Cooperative Agreement with the Mo Department of Conservation (MDC) to establish a web-based database to collect bird occurrence data from birders visiting MDC Conservation Areas in order to create bird checklists. This Conservation Area Checklist Project will be known as CACHE. We had targeted a date of January or February 2006 for the on-line database to be ready for data entry, but I AM PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE that due to the overwhelmingly industriousness (not to mention amazing genius) of database developer Patrick Harrison, the database is NOW ready for use. The database can be accessed through ASM's web site www.mobirds.org. Directions on how to use the database will be immediately forthcoming on MOBIRDS by Patrick. This is a wonderful opportunity for birders to put their skills to good use by logging their sightings on the CACHE database. Fifteen Conservation Areas (noted on the web site info/directions) have priority this first year, but data on any and all Conservation Areas is encouraged. For providing this data, ASM will receive monetary compensation from MDC to be used towards partnership habitat restoration projects that will benefit birds.
