That was an interesting website. I usually notice the smaller geese right off and then I tend to check the neck lenght and the structure of the bill. I did not realize that the bill structure was the more definitive characteristic of the Cackling Goose, though. Thanks for the info.

I am not disputing the ID of some Cackling geese at Riverlands or elsewhere.
Jim M and I had some "discussions" about those birds ourselves yesterday.
(forgot to mention them in my post, but still not confident about my ID of 
some of the birds.)
Just putting out some helpful info for those going out in the field.
