Mobirders,

This afternoon, at a long distance, I identified one Western Grebe at the Winfield L/D. As the bird got closer I backed off from the ID and cannot rule out Clarke's Grebe.

Subjective observations: yellowish bill (in good light),more white on the flanks, lighter back, thinner neck stripe, extensive white on face (including the area where I guessed the eye to be), white stripe on the wing (seen briefly when the bird stretched). The bird never moved close enough to definitely see the details of the face.

There was a report of a WEGR at this location from Eric Schuette on Sunday. I found out about this while making the usual phone calls. Don't know the details, but it might be the same bird. If anyone gets a better look please email me.

Good birding
