I just got a call from Jim Ziebol. A window in his car was broken this
morning (8/29/05) while it was parked near the entrance to the bird garden
in Tower Grove Park. Some things were stolen, but fortunately none of them
were birding gear.

People visiting the park should lock everything they are not carrying with
them in the trunk. Even if nothing of great value is taken, it's a
nuisance to have a window replaced. I may be overly cautious, but I've
begun locking things in the trunk before I drive to the park - I don't want
would-be thieves to see me stashing purse, etc.

It's good general practice not to leave anything in view in one's car no
matter where parked. Tower Grove Park is especially risky.
