On a run this evening at Castlewood SP saw 1 adult and 1 juv MISSISSIPPI KITE hunting low over the field .Heard a SUMMER TANAGER and some PEWEES up in the woods. Mainly want to bring up a topic that has been touched upon a few times on mobirds but dont think it hurts to bring up again. That is birders, usually being more aware and alert than most park users, keeping and extra eye out for people illegally collecting various criiters , plants, artifacts or poaching Tonight in the park I came across a couple of dudes who were obviously i collecting snakes illegally.Played the part of an intimidating hard arse and succeded in coaxing them to give it up and boogie off(probably to another area park to try again) I certainly DO NOT suggest anybody confronting people doing this stuff(im simple and dont know any better) but at the very least try to get a hold of a ranger, police officer and let them know whats up. Seems in the last few years as suburbia encroaches on many of the St Louis area parks, in particularCastlewood,Rockwoods,Babler,Busch, many "professional"type collectors are starting to appear with more frequency. Not just people collecting animals but Indian artifact diggers ecspecially along the Meremac River corridor So next time in the field keep and extra eye out for these critter bandidos who are actually stealing natural heritage that belong to all Missourians -Mike Brady __________________________________________________ ########################################################### * Audubon Society of Missouri's * * Wild Bird Discussion Forum * *---------------------------------------------------------* * To subscribe or unsubscribe, click here: * * https://po.missouri.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mobirds-l&A=1 * *---------------------------------------------------------* * To access the list archives, click here: * * http://po.missouri.edu/archives/mobirds-l.html * * * * To access the Audubon Society of Missouri Web * * Site: http://mobirds.org * ###########################################################
