I noticed in the current edition of Winging It that the American Birding
Association is now advocating the use of Channel 5 on both the FRS and GMRS
radios for universal use by the birding community.

Previously they had advocated 11/22 -- and they list several reasons for
this proposed change. It involved having a common frequency for both style
radios, and apparently there isn't standardization on the subchannels -
sometimes radios with different manufacturers didn't get clear reception on
the subchannels.

We use the radios a lot in Columbia --- my suggestion is that all of us
across the state change to channel 5 in light of this new recommendation.
Is there consensus on that????? When you find a zootie, and several
carloads of Columbia birders come zooming into your town, we sure would like
to be able to talk to you!
