Speaking of closet birders we all know several I'm sure. There is one that I went to school with who lives over in Carthage, Jasper Co., MO. He still looks at birds and keeps lists but is reclusive and doesn't get involved. I visited the food processing plant that he works at yesterday, 8-3-05. Specialty Brands is two miles south of Carthage, MO., on Hwy 71. I was told that a Greater Roadrunner entertained the folks on morning break by running around the cars in the lot some "three weeks ago." (Early July, I guess). Neighbors to the food plant's parking lot is a junk yard, so the area seems like an ideal place for a roadrunner. Plenty of lizards and mice to chase, I'm sure. I now have recent records for the three sw border counties: McDonald, Newton and now Jasper County. Good birding, Larry Herbert, Joplin MO. __________________________________________________ ########################################################### * Audubon Society of Missouri's * * Wild Bird Discussion Forum * *---------------------------------------------------------* * To subscribe or unsubscribe, click here: * * https://po.missouri.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mobirds-l&A=1 * *---------------------------------------------------------* * To access the list archives, click here: * * http://po.missouri.edu/archives/mobirds-l.html * * * * To access the Audubon Society of Missouri Web * * Site: http://mobirds.org * ###########################################################
