Very dry conditions at Castlewood SP.The Meremac river is so low in one spot
i easily walked across it only getting a little above waist deep in the
middle.
Observed what is no doubt some post-breeding dispersal of some of the
woodland warblers. Was finding worm-eating warblers in atypical habitat such as
shrubland habitat along Kiefer Creek.
Many birds singing early but song dropped off very fast after about 830.
Some highlight birds were RED-SHOULDER HAWKS and MISSISSPPI KITE hunting over
the field.BLUE GROSBEAK eating a large beetle along the bluff trail.
Watched a KENTUCKY WARBLER eating some catipillars in a large wild rose
hedge.
Belted Kinfisher diving for fish along the river
Reptiles have for the most part been very scarce theis summer so was nice to
see a BLUE RACER that also was up along the bluff trail
RED FOX family out in the field.
Really hope we get mucho precip pronto!
