Craig Hensley was very kind and opened the gate to Martha Lafite at 6:45 for us to look for the Swainson's, but alas it was only heard not seen. It called from about 7:30 to about 8:00 near the bluebird house under the power lines then was quiet or moved to the pond. Then at 8:45 it was heard again near the bluebird house. The first time we heard it call, it was in the small triangle of prairie just up the hill from the Rush Creek observation deck. Warning: even though I used Skin So soft and bug spray, I still have about 10 chigger bites on each foot and around my ankles!!! Happy birding, Ruth Simmons Lee's Summit, Jackson Co., MO [log in to unmask] "A nation behaves well if the natural resources and assets which one generation turns over to the next are increased and not impaired in value."
