Very fast trip to the Fountain Grove wetland boardwalk (one of my kids'
favorite places) yielded some nice birds this morning... Observed species
from 10:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m., high winds 15-20 mph, and cool (45
degrees...). In addition to these species, we observed over 50 WATER
MOCCASINS. These were sitting in various locations on top of the dead
vegegtation on both sides of the boardwalk... Some of these were nearly five
feet in length and were so large that their movement made much noise in the
dried vegetation.

At least six Soras were observed running along in the vegetation and two
Virginia Rails were flushed. Two Black-crowned Night-Herons were present.
One was observed in flight and then it landed in a tree directly accross
from the hunters' blind on the boardwalk. Another allowed us to approach
within 20 feet of it as it tried to "hide" in the green vegetation just off
the south side of the boardwalk.
