Very fast trip to the Fountain Grove wetland boardwalk (one of my kids' favorite places) yielded some nice birds this morning... Observed species from 10:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m., high winds 15-20 mph, and cool (45 degrees...). In addition to these species, we observed over 50 WATER MOCCASINS. These were sitting in various locations on top of the dead vegegtation on both sides of the boardwalk... Some of these were nearly five feet in length and were so large that their movement made much noise in the dried vegetation. At least six Soras were observed running along in the vegetation and two Virginia Rails were flushed. Two Black-crowned Night-Herons were present. One was observed in flight and then it landed in a tree directly accross from the hunters' blind on the boardwalk. Another allowed us to approach within 20 feet of it as it tried to "hide" in the green vegetation just off the south side of the boardwalk. 32 seen American White Pelican Black-crowned Night-Heron Canada Goose Wood Duck Blue-winged Teal Turkey Vulture Red-tailed Hawk American Kestrel Virginia Rail Sora Killdeer Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs Spotted Sandpiper Pectoral Sandpiper Rock Pigeon Mourning Dove Pileated Woodpecker Tree Swallow Eastern Bluebird American Robin Blue Jay American Crow European Starling Chipping Sparrow Northern Cardinal Red-winged Blackbird Eastern Meadowlark Common Grackle House Finch American Goldfinch House Sparrow _____ Patrick Harrison Shelbyville, Shelby County, Missouri Editor, The Bluebird Webmaster, http://mobirds.org <http://mobirds.org/> The Audubon Society of Missouri <mailto:[log in to unmask]> [log in to unmask] [log in to unmask] [log in to unmask] http://patrickdharrison.com <http://patrickdharrison.com/> ,_ >' ) ( ( \ " |\ __________________________________________________ * Audubon Society of Missouri's * * Wild Bird Discussion Forum * *------------------------------------------------* * To unsubscribe send the message * * SIGNOFF MOBIRDS-L * * to [log in to unmask] * * To subscribe send the message * * SUBSCRIBE MOBIRDS-L your name * * to [log in to unmask] * *------------------------------------------------* * To access the list archives from July 2002 on: * * http://po.missouri.edu/archives/mobirds-l.html * * * * To access the Audubon Society of Missouri Web * * Site: http://www.mobirds.org * ##################################################
