FYI:

Clarendon, AR ("The Door to the Big Woods") is hosting its 4th annual Big
Woods Birding Festival on May 21, 2005. Members of the University of
Cornell, School of Orinthology, will be there as part of the festivities.
Clarendon is a 5 1/2 hour drive from St. Louis, far less for those along the
southern tier counties of Missouri.

A carnival-like atmosphere could be expected, but it could also be quite fun
with a lot of excitement for birders coming from all over the world. Finding
the Ivory-billed Woodpecker so close to our home state beckons us to go at
some time. Besides the Ivory-billed, there are many other birds worth our
interests that nest there, such as the Swainson's Warbler. The Big Woods
also is home to the only American Black Bear population in Arkansas that
didn't have to be regenerated from outside its boundaries.
