Ran down to the refuge this evening. Swan Lake pool is low but there were a couple hundred Pelicans out in the middle, also hundreds of shorebirds way out there that I didn't have time to get closer to. There were quite a few closer though along main levee road. Nice close looks at Dunlin, Wilson's Phalaropes, and Semi-palm Plovers among others. Saw more shorebirds in other parts of the area as well including an odd looking Lesser yellowlegs with a mostly white head. As usual many Spotted Sandpipers were along the rocks on the shore of Silver Lake. Saw the Yellow-crowned Night Heron near the East entrance. There has been at least one show up there every year for the last several. Was able to catch and look at a Praire Kingsnake and a very attractive Diamondback Watersnake.

There were about 30 GB Herons and a dozen Great Egrets in a private wetland along the bottom road between Fountain Grove and Sumner.

 Later, Steve
