Call for Papers

For the 47th Annual Convention of the Midwest Modern Language
Association
November 10-13, 2005 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Staging Historical Women in German-Language Drama

Historical dramas written by men have portrayed female protagonists for a long
time, but little is it known that German-speaking women writers also composed
historical dramas that center on a historical female figure. This session
seeks to examine how these historical female protagonists are portrayed in
works written by German-speaking women writers. Comparative approaches that
discuss the differences and commonalities of their depiction in works by male
and female authors are also welcome.
