HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

The ST. LOUIS AUDUBON SOCIETY is sponsoring a field trip this coming
Saturday to Riverlands Environmental Demonstration Area (REDA) in St.
Charles County, Missouri.

We'll be looking for wintering geese, swans, ducks and, of course, the
eagles. Anything is possible, and hopefuls include scoters and Barrow's
Goldeneye; Rough-legged Hawk; Peregrine Falcon; Thayer's, Iceland, Lesser
Black-backed, Glaucous and Great Black-backed Gulls; Short-eared Owl;
longspurs and much more. Recent reports have included Tundra Swan,
Long-tailed Duck, California Gull and Snow Bunting.

** Date: Saturday, January 8, 2005, rain or shine.

** Meeting Time: 9 a.m.

** Meeting Place: REDA Teal Pond parking lot. Map:
http://www.mvs.usace.army.mil/Rivers/map.html.

** Duration: This is planned as a morning-only trip.

** Plan: Bird Riverlands and vicinity, including the Illinois side of the
Mississippi River, thoroughly. If you have one, please bring your FRS
radio, tuned to channel 11/22.

** Lunch: This will be a half-day trip, so there are no plans for a lunch
stop. The trip might extend some through the lunch hour, so you have your
choice of taking a late lunch after the trip, or bringing food and eating
on-the-fly.

** Directions: U.S. Highway 67 to Riverlands Way (there is a gas station
at this intersection which is 1/4 mile southwest of the Clark bridge
connecting St. Charles County and Alton, Illinois); Riverlands Way southeast
to Wise Road; Wise Road south to the Teal Pond parking lot.

** Leaders: Paul Bauer and Mike Thelen.

** Cost: Free.

Everyone is welcome.
