Ken

There was a kettle of four turkey vultures hanging in the air within a few
hundred yards of the entrance to Busch Conservation Area in ST. Charles
County for a few hours on Sunday so they are still in the area.

At the risk of sounding absurd -- do wild turkeys ever soar? Background:
the Calvary Cemetery (StLouis) wild turkey flock is roosting in a small
grove of trees near the railroad embankment, on the Riverview Blvd side of
the cemetery. Yesterday when the bus came through (6:50 AM or thereabouts),
there was a large bird soaring (hang-gliding), beak into the wind, over the
trees. The sky was light enough to see the bird, but still too dark to get
a good look. If it had been summer, i would've said 'turkey vulture'
without another thought; but i haven't seen any TVs in the area for almost a
month, never over the cemetery, and never airborne before sunrise. Am
wondering if i was seeing a turkey, that'd been caught in a wind gust?
