The poor effort of pishing on my part sounds like a Tufted Titmouse or Carolina Wren when they are having a tantrum at me. I have been scolded by these birds for just being there (just like St Louis drivers).

I was always told that the reason "pishing" worked was because it was used by other birds as a warning call, yet never in my life have I heard a bird of any species "pish" unless it was part of its normal territorial, breeding, or flight call.

What am I missing?
