Dianne and I drove down to Swan Lake NWR today. Lots of waterfowl on both Swan and Silver Lakes, most were along way out. Saw two Common Loons on Silver. Doris Fitchett had seen two Western Grebes there on Friday. Did not see them today, but they could have been there among the huge number of other birds - tens of thousands of ducks, a few thousand Snow Geese, and hundreds of Gr White-fronts and Canadas. The great majority of Ducks were Gadwall. Also a large number of Coots. We saw 4-5 Imm. Bald Eagles several Redtails, a N Harrier and a Merlin chasing and being chased by a bunch of Blue Jays. Many Franklins Gulls were flying over the Refuge and also for several miles North over blacktop YY. There was a lone Cattle Egret in a pasture along YY with a group of horses. Saw a late Spotted Sandpiper on the North side of Pershing State Park. Nice day to be out before the rains move back in. BTW the interior of Swan Lake is now closed to the general Public until March 1st.
   Later, Steve
