I remember earlier this summer a Black Skimmer was reported at Lake
Springfield in Springfield, IL. If I remember correctly, it was on the
property of an electric power plant with limited access and then all access
was withdrawal. Seems like there was a birder who worked at the plant, and
thus had been able to see the bird.

Just wondering if this is possibly the same bird or perhaps a new one the
hurricanes blew in???

Please keep posting if this bird is see Sunday morning. Thanks.

The Black Skimmer was seen again by the Malones, Rogles, Leuders, Berger and
I at ~6PM. It was observed in the same area at Lincoln Shields, sitting on
a log by itself, as posted by John Solodar. However, it once again flew out
and down river and we did not relocate it before we all left. It seems to
like that area, hopefully while it is out feeding tonight it will not go far
and be there in the morning....

More later on the other great highlights of the SLAS Carlyle Pelagic today!!

The Black Skimmer was viewed by a number of people this afternoon. It had
sat in one spot on one log for quite a long time that only gave a silhouette
view from the Lincoln Shields parking lot. Finally, it began to move about
and flew for quite awhile before alighting on a log much closer to the
parking lot. From the road on the left it afforded excellent side views in
full color. What a beauty.

Around 4:20 or so the skimmer took off toward Illinois and became lost to
view in the background of the bluffs and boats. No further sightings were
recorded between 4:20 and 5:00 or thereabouts. Some birders went
downstream to check for it around Ellis Bay but had no luck.

Just talked with Charlene Malone. They are looking at the Black Skimmer at
Lincoln Shields as we spoke - 3:55p.

Please keep us posted if anyone sees it Sunday morning - I can't get there
until the afternoon, if at all!!!

Just received a phone call from the St. Louis hotline about a Black Skimmer
seen by Bob KLeiger this afternoon, Sept 25, at the Lincoln Shields area of
Riverlands in ST. Charles County.
