Is the river of The Waste Land, a shadow of The Old Man?
Remember, Huck is a Finn, and he has dark work to take care of.
The exposure of cultural depravity on both rivers is somewhat
parallel. Perhaps that's why Conrad's Congo and Kurtz fascinated
TSE so much. Retrieving Kurtz and smuggling Jim are interestingly
apposite opposites. Then there are Jim and Lord Jim, but that's
a stretch. Stretching is good exorcise.

Certainly the river in 4Q BN goes through time shifts as does the
one in TWL.
