Captain Barna Norton is the guy to go with, if you go to Machias Seal Island
from Jonesport. You can also go from Cutler with someone else. Although the
water part of the trip from Cutler is shorter, I prefer the Jonesport run
because it traverses open water in which you may see shearwaters, jaegers
and storm petrels.

Both Cutler and Jonesport are "way down " -- i.e. in the far northeastern
part of Maine.

(Explanation: Maine old timers used the famous expression "down east" to
refer to northeastern Maine, although it appears to be "up" on a map.
Originally, there were no roads to go there. Transportation was by sailing
ship. The prevailing winds are from west to east. The trip to northeastern
Maine was a downwind run from west to east. Therefore, going to northeastern
Maine was going "down east.").
