Paul McKenzie called to report three (3) Greater Roadrunners seen this
weekend in Douglas Co.

The area described below is on p.63 of the DeLorme Atlas and in Douglas
Co. (p.72) of the Missouri's Conservation Atlas.

Paul suggests that the US Forest Service map of the area might be
helpful. A map can be obtained at the Ava office. You can call ahead
for a map to Theresa Davidson, 417-483-6683.

The birds were seen within a two to three mile radius. Two crossed the
road together; the third is hanging around trash cans at a picnic area.

Begin at the town of Smallett (south of Ava on MO 5, then southwest on
Douglas Co. Rt. A).

Turn west onto the road indicated as the Glade Top Trail, a National
Scenic Byway. You will go past Hayden (sp?) Bald. At a Y, bear right
to the Caney Picnic Area (has nothing to do with Caney Mountain CA).
There are picnic tables, rail fences and a demonstration area. Watch
the area near the trash cans.

Past the picnic area is a place called the Pinnacle. This is where two
birds crossed the road.
